What are linemates?

2 players are considered linemates if they:

Either player spent at least 4% of their TOI minutes with the other at any strength on the same team at the same time
Play the same position(i.e., forwards are not considered linemates with defensemen)

NOTE: NHL shift data only goes back to the 2012-2013 season so there is a hard cutoff there.

How to Play

Goal: Connect two NHL players through their common linemates.

Rules:

You start with two players who need to be connected
Add players who were linemates with anyone already in the chain
Win when you create an unbroken chain between the two players
You have 3 wrong guesses before the game ends

Difficulty Modes:

Easy: Can be solved with just 1 connecting player
Hard: Requires 2 or more connecting players

Uniqueness:

Uniqueness of an answer is calculated by using the combined TOI % spent together for each connection in the chain. The lowest TOI % allowed is 4% so if every player in the chain spent 4% of their time together, your uniqueness score would be 0. It climbs based on how common of a linemate that player was. The goal is to reward obscure picks. It is just a fun measurement and is still being tweaked
